He photographed a lot of small and just microscopic things from the world of technology and wildlife. The last large-scale work of the photomaster is the book "The Hidden beauty of seeds and fruits: the botanical photography of Levon Biss". In it, he collected more than 100 pictures of exotic seeds and fruits from different parts of our planet.
To make a botanical trip around the world, Biss did not need to leave the British Isles. The photographer used the collection of the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh, which was collected by scientists and travelers for several centuries.
Some of the seeds caught in Levon's lens have not yet been studied, and the origin of several remains a mystery to modern science. There are also samples among the seeds that belonged to extinct plants, and this is very sad.
In his painstaking work, the photographer used modern photographic equipment and a special method of superimposing images taken with different focal lengths. This allowed Biss to achieve excellent detail and natural color reproduction. The most difficult shot of his project consists of 150 frames.
The book with unique photographs will become a real event in the world of botany and will contribute to the growth of the popularity of the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh. Biss's photographs will also be part of the museum's exposition of one of the oldest gardens in Europe. Unfortunately, every year fewer and fewer people are interested in nature, and without knowledge about the living world, we will not be able to preserve it.
When viewing Biss's works, it seems that photographing seeds is no less fascinating than animals.
