He is known for his unexpected photographs and his style is recognizable everywhere. While he has taken iconic photographs of everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Jackie Kennedy, it is his ability to capture the vagaries of everyday life that sets him apart. While many of his black and white photos are quite humorous, especially those of children and dogs, his other shots are quite serious. As the photographer himself says: “Some say that my photos are sad, some say that they are funny. Joy and sadness - aren't they the same thing?
(Total 18 photos)

1. Like Henry Cartier-Bresson, Erwitt is a master at capturing the “decisive moment” or creating the very moment when a photograph should be taken.

2. Although one can quickly skim through his photographs and find humor and irony in them, his photographs should be studied or at least looked at again.

3. How else can you notice that a fashionable Chihuahua in a glamorous hat is standing next to his mistress's black boots and the paws of a giant dog?

4. Erwitt recently published a book in a very limited edition.

5. It's called Eliot Erwitt XXL Collector's Edition. It is 244 pages, hardcover, signed by the author, and full of Erwitt's iconic photographs.

6. A more expensive version of the book comes out with an autograph of the author and a digital print of photographs.

7. And those who liked his photos of dogs can buy his book "Dogs", which is full of interesting pictures of man's best friends.
