The predator has turned into prey! Hungry sea lion dined on shark

These stunning photos show the incredible moment when a sea lion suddenly arranged a banquet right in the ocean, having lunch with a young fox shark, or, as it is also called, a threshing shark. And it turns out that this is a much more common phenomenon than you might think.

Nevertheless, the scene shocked everyone on board the whale-watching boat off the coast of Newport Beach in California, and photographer Slater Moore, who took the pictures, captured what was happening also with the help of a drone.

The Marine Mammal Center describes California sea lions as extremely "opportunistic" eaters. These pinnipeds feed on squid, octopus, herring, sea bass, mackerel and small sharks. They, in turn, are hunted by killer whales and great white sharks.

Meanwhile, thresher sharks eat schooling fish, including tuna and mackerel, as well as cuttlefish, squid, crustaceans and seabirds.
