Is the mirror lying? What we really look like
By Pictolic https://www.pictolic.com/article/is-the-mirror-lying-what-we-really-look-like.htmlAre you sure that you have ever wondered: what do we really look like — like in a mirror or like in a photo? After all, the picture that we see both there and there is really very different… What is the reason for this and where the truth still lies, read our material.
Throughout our lives, from early childhood, we observe ourselves looking in the mirror, and we know ourselves exactly like this. But can we be sure that the "picture" in the mirror is 100% reliable? On the one hand, yes, on the other — no…
The fact is that there, on the glass "canvas", we see ourselves in a mirrored version. And this "version" of us is not completely true. Especially for others.
It's no secret that most people's faces are asymmetrical. For example, someone may have their left eyebrow raised, someone may have the right corner of their lips lowered, and so on. In the mirror, all the asymmetry on the right side of the face seems to be "transferred" to the left. That's why it often happens that we don't like ourselves in the photos!
We don't want to disappoint you, but it is the camera that captures our real image — how others see us. Our brain, which has been accustomed to the "mirrored version" since childhood, can be quite difficult to come to terms with this…
However, the "photo version" of us is also not 100% true! "How is it?" you ask. And everything is simple! A photo is just a frozen moment, a static picture. We don't stay in the same position all day, but move, smile, laugh, talk. Therefore, others see us differently.
In addition, the image is affected by many parameters: lighting, camera, focal length when shooting, and so on.
According to research by scientists, most people do NOT like how they turn out in the photo. We have already told you how to take good selfies, but even this does not guarantee that you will be satisfied with the result. In particular, because they are used to seeing themselves in the mirror, and this is normal.
And if you still want to find out how others see you, ask your loved ones to record you on video, where your movements and facial expressions will be visible. This way you will get a picture as close to reality as possible.
