This is a protected area where the largest cypress forests on the planet grow. The lake area is about 106 square kilometers.
At the beginning of the nineteenth century, a congestion of river debris and logs appeared on the Red River. Beavers living on the banks of the river have reinforced this congestion with their dams. So a dam was formed, which blocked the movement of the river, and served as the beginning of the creation of the lake. Now it is a protected area with a unique nature.
Cypresses, especially those that are in the water, often have special formations called "cypress knees". They are appendages resembling stumps, but growing directly from the roots of the tree. Until now, scientists are thinking about why cypresses need these special formations. One of the theories says that for additional oxygen saturation of the roots, the other is that the shoots help the trees to strengthen in the ground so that they do not vomit in a hurricane.
On the shore of the lake there is a town called Uncertain, which means "Uncertain". This city, located three hours from Dallas, lives exclusively at the expense of tourists who come to see the fabulous cypresses. After visiting one of the fishing bases on the shore, you can rent a bungalow and a motor boat. A tour of the lake can also be made on a paddle steamer."
