The industry originated back in the 1980s, with illegal immigrants from Nigeria coming to work in the Italian tomato fields. When the farms closed and they had no work left, they began to earn money by criminal means - by supplying drugs and prostitutes to the country. The costs of moving to Italy for future prostitutes reach up to 60 thousand euros. Nigerian prostitutes receive negligible - sometimes 10 euros per client.
