The house where time stopped: 89-year-old Briton has not changed anything in the interior since 1948

An 89-year-old resident of Liverpool knows for sure: his home is his fortress. The British pensioner has been living in his home since 1948. He never changed anything inside and saved thousands of pounds on repairs and furniture. Here, every detail reminds him of happy times, childhood and loving parents.

Take a look with us inside the house, the interior of which has remained unchanged for more than 70 years.Doug Bethel from Liverpool still lives in the house where he spent his childhood. He moved here with his parents and six siblings 72 years ago. Then the father and mother bought this house for only 800 pounds.

The former navy sailor never had his own family, because he often disappeared on long-distance business trips. After returning from flights, he lived with his mother and father until their deaths in 1976 and 1988.

Everything in the house still reminds of his childhood and youth.

There is no central heating in the dwelling. The old man used coal for heating until last year.

The bedrooms are still the same as they were in the childhood of Doug and his siblings. The house has preserved the original doors, ceilings and floor.

Only 10 years ago, a pensioner replaced the old wiring and installed new plugs. Now the house has a modern electrical system with sockets with three contacts. But Doug still kept a few old sockets as a keepsake.

Most of the furniture is antiques. A lot of items are wedding gifts from the Brit's parents. He still uses the knife he gave him for the wedding.

Doug admits that the 1950s were the happiest years of his life. Then their childhood passed here.

While serving in the Navy, Doug operated radars on the HMS Rapid fighter. After retirement, he worked as a bricklayer and then as a storekeeper for a gas company. Doug now lives in an old house with his younger sister, 86-year-old Brenda.

The house was built in 1897. He survived two explosions: the first during the Second World War, when a shell hit a building on the same street, and the second in 1986, when a gas cylinder exploded at the neighbors.

Doug's favorite place is the kitchen. There is still an old stove in it, which is working properly.

The pensioner says that he saved a lot of money without spending on repairs, furniture and modern household appliances.
