Mime Hammonds renews old dolls: washes them, combs their hair, re—draws faces and picks up new clothes - such that small children can play with dolls. She strives to make each doll special, with her own character, virtues and hobbies.

Millie is a smart and cheerful girl. She is quick-witted and witty and often amuses loved ones with her puns. Nancy is the most loyal friend in the world. She is kind, cheerful and attentive to others. She loves pajamas and, if it were possible, would only wear them. Nancy has a light hand, and she is proud that she can throw the ball further than any of the boys she knows. She "throws like a girl", and these are not offensive words, but a compliment.

Jess is the captain of the football team, and her speed and endurance allow her to play as a striker. She doesn't miss a single opportunity to kick the ball and hopes that one day she will play for Australia in the Young Matilda team.

Celia loves to dance. Mime Hammonds tries to transform as many details as possible, including shoes: she makes ballet flats out of high-heeled shoes.
