Disney researchers have installed four rotating infrared cameras with face recognition function in 150 cinemas in the USA with 400 seats.

During the sessions, the neural network analyzed the stereotypical behavior of viewers: it looked for people among them who reacted in a similar way to what was happening on the screen. The algorithm also determined whether the audience's emotions corresponded to the plot of the film.

The cameras made up 16 million landmarks by analyzing the faces of 3,179 people. Although the experiment is preliminary, the technology has shown "very good prediction efficiency": after a few minutes of the session, it predicts the viewer's facial expressions with high reliability in the remaining time.

Among the films on which Disney tested the algorithm were "Puzzle", "Zveropolis", "City of Heroes", "The Jungle Book" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
