The best bird photos from the Bird Photographer of the Year contest
Three incredibly touching chicks, a hardworking woodpecker merging with young foliage, a dancing penguin and a romantic crow whose nocturnal companions turned out to be the moon and a street lamp - these pictures and some others were included in the shortlist of the Bird Photographer of the Year 2020 contest.
The prestigious competition takes place for the fifth year in a row. This time, photographers from more than 60 countries of the world sent 15,000 images to the competition in five categories: "Birds in the environment", "Birds in flight", "Bird Behavior", "Best Portrait" and "Garden and urban birds".

The winners will be announced on Saturday, August 22. In the meantime, we offer to look at that part of the life of the bird world that we would never have seen if it weren't for telescopic lenses and the ability of photographers to wait for the right moment for a long time.
