Sell your life and start all over again

Deciding to change his fate, Ian Asher put his own life on eBay. Having got rid of the past, he fulfilled all his most cherished dreams.

Ian Usher ,an Australian of British origin, after a very painful divorce, seriously thought about the future. In the asset-44 years, an unsuccessful marriage, a house with a lot of things and a job as a salesman in a small store. Plus, the typical midlife crisis and depression in such cases.

In June 2008, Ian Asher put on eBay.com a lot called ALife4Sale. Yes, yes, it is life. More precisely, his old life and everything connected with it: a house with furniture, appliances, a car, a motorcycle and at the same time — friendly ties and his own work.

"I was ready to leave with only my documents and wallet," he explained later in his blog. When his ex-wife, Laura, found out about this, she said that he had gone mad.

Most of the buyers, of course, offered him ridiculous money "for the lulz". But in the end, a certain Australian won, who offered Ian 399,300 Australian dollars. Ian was a little disappointed with the result: only the house was estimated by realtors at 420 thousand. In addition, citing unexpected financial difficulties, the potential owner of Ian's life refused the deal at the last moment.

But Ian, who was fascinated by this idea, started implementing "Plan B", putting his property up for sale in a more traditional way.

Quickly parting with what had been accumulated over a quarter of a century of conscious life, Ian made a list of a hundred items. He was going to visit Dubai, see Las Vegas, learn to fly a plane and snowboard, swim in the ocean next to white sharks, see Niagara Falls, learn French, make a movie, for some reason meet with the founder of the Virgin Group Richard Branson, make a night parachute jump and much, much more.

In almost two years, Ian Asher has visited 31 countries on six continents.

It may seem that Ian simply squandered the money earned from the sale of the house, traveling around the world. Basically, in truth, it was. Now he admits that at first he just wanted to live carefree for two years, without thinking about the future.

It is not known how he managed it, but he still met Richard Branson, starred in a cameo role in a movie, learned French and visited the famous Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior.

His personal life also unexpectedly improved. While riding a dog sled, he met a woman named Mo in Canada.

Having fulfilled almost all his wishes, for thirty thousand dollars he bought a small island off the coast of Panama, built a house on it with his own hands and lives there with a friend.

He wrote a book about his incredible adventures called A Life Sold.

Now Ian publishes books for children and is sure that he will never return to his former life. However, it does not exclude that he can also put up for sale a new life.
