Seductive Parisian women in the paintings of French artist Jean-Gabriel Domergue
Jean-Gabriel Domergue was born in Bordeaux, France, in 1889. Already at the age of 17, he exhibited his works at the Salon Des Artistes Français ("Exhibition of French Artists"). In 1913, Domergue was awarded the Prix de Rome— the highest award in France in the field of art.
The manner of Jean-Gabriel Domergue was recognizable, his landscapes were distinguished by a light and airy style. However, in the 1920s, the artist's preferences changed dramatically, and Domergue began to paint beautiful Parisian women, revealing to the world the image of a flirtatious and elegant Frenchwoman.
Moreover, he is considered to be the creator of the pin-up style, as often famous ballerinas and actresses in semi-nude and playful poses flaunted in portraits at that time.
