Taipei is the capital of the Republic of China and the official capital of Taiwan Province within the PRC. It is the political, economic, educational and cultural center of Taiwan and one of the most important cities in East Asia. A photographer under the pseudonym David G. took these rare photos when he studied at Taiwan from September 1977 to March 1979.

In 1967, Taipei received the status of a provincial municipality — then a number of districts joined the city (Shilin, Beitou, Neihu, Nangang, Jingmei and Muzha). The area of Taipei has increased almost 4 times, and the population has increased to 1.56 million people. By the mid-1970s, more than 2 million people lived in the city.

Later, the influx of population decreased, and it became quite stable by the mid-1990s. But despite this, today Taipei remains one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The population level continues to grow every year in the city and surrounding areas.
