Pfeiffer was born into a family of a manager and a housewife, and for a long time she did not think about an acting career. After graduating from high school, she worked as a cashier in a supermarket, and then went to college to study law to work as a court clerk.

Winning a beauty pageant in Orange County changed everything. After that, Pfeiffer was sent to the Miss California pageant, where she placed sixth. It was then, realizing that she felt confident on stage and in front of the cameras, Pfeiffer hired an agent and began to look for ways to film.

She began with cameo roles in not-so-successful TV series. The first appearance on the big screen was for her role in the film "Hollywood Knights" (1980), and she received her first major role two years later, in the musical "Grease‑2". And a year later, she was waiting for a real success-a role in the famous film "Scarface", which brought her to the first cohort of Hollywood.
