Nerves to hell: a Kiev resident fired from a revolver at firefighters who came to rescue him

Private property is sacred and even if it burns, no one has the right to extinguish it with impunity without the knowledge of the owner. A wild incident occurred in the Goloseevsky district of Kiev, on the Embankment-Korchevatskaya Street, where the owner of a burning house began shooting a pistol at firefighters who came to extinguish his farm.

In the evening, on September 15, the fire and rescue unit of the Goloseevsky district of the Ukrainian capital received a signal about a fire in one of the private sector households. But when the team arrived at the site and began scouting, it became clear that they were not welcome.

The press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reported that a shot was fired at firefighters from a house, and without warning. Seeing that further stay in the yard of the house becomes dangerous, the head of the rescue team gave the command to leave the territory. Moreover, the fire had been eliminated by that time.

But the owner of the house, seeing the organized retreat of the firefighters, went on the attack and, leaving the house, fired several more shots towards the rescuers. The aggressive owner remained deaf to the rescuers' requests to stop shooting and had to turn to specialized specialists, that is, to the police.

By the arrival of law enforcement officers, the nervous citizen calmed down and met the outfit without the slightest aggression. A resident of Kiev, born in 1955, explained to the police: he started shooting because he got nervous, mistaking rescuers for people encroaching on his peace and property. The shooter was so courteous that he even apologized to the fire brigade. The man had a gun permit, but the gun attracted the attention of the police.

It was a rather rare weapon — a revolver of the Nagant system, converted for firing traumatic ammunition. Rubber bullets can cause serious damage to a person and even fatal injury if they hit the head, neck or chest. It was only by a lucky chance that no one was injured as a result of the conflict. The weapon from the nervous Kievan was seized and experts will have to determine the legality of its alteration. It is not yet known what punishment the shooter faces for attacking firefighters.

Unfortunately, it is worth recognizing that representatives of the courageous profession are threatened not only by the flame. Unpredictable people are often a great danger to firefighters.
