Monsters beneath our feet
From the most ancient times men could not abandon the habit to invent mythological creatures, scary monsters and beasts, possessing supernatural powers. Looking at the stars and the clouds, they saw the forms that helpful imagination for centuries were turned into silhouettes wonderful creatures, who later became the heroes of myths and fairy tales.
Today, thanks to the satellite imagery of Google Earth, we repeat the habits of our ancestors, with one exception: now our eyes are fixed not on heaven but on their home planet. An example of such a visual survey of the project was the Argentine photographer Federico Winer's Ultradistancia (the"Overdistance").
Using the "divine" view of Google Earth, Wiener seeks out silhouettes of monsters (and other intriguing things) in the landscapes of the planet Earth. He carefully considers the shape of the ports and Islands, country boundaries and cities to prove the existence of the most incredible creatures. Some forms collected by Frederick into a single image deliberately, the rest was just a lucky coincidence.
