This huge Great Dane is taller than his owners when he sits with them on the couch. He can become the tallest dog in the world and enter the Guinness Book of Records. The height of the three-year-old Major, when he stands on his hind legs, is seven feet (213 cm). He weighs 76 kilograms. His owners, Brian and Julie Williams from South Wales, say he looks formidable, but he won't hurt a fly.

A huge great dane sleeps 22 hours a day on his own mattress in human height and eats a special diet, which consists mainly of chicken and rice. They have to watch him and two other dogs before announcing the record holder.

Brian Williams says, "He's the dog with the biggest heart in the world. This is an amazing animal. People adore him. They play with him all day long. We bought him as a puppy, and he's been with us ever since. He is the absolute master of himself, and we don't lock him up if he wants to walk. He is afraid of his own shadow, behaves well with children and behaves like a star. The dog brings a lot of happiness, and it is very easy to take care of him. He has a wonderful character and he never gives us any trouble."

The family keeps a falcon nursery, where the Major has plenty of space to walk freely. Two other Great danes, Freddy from Essex and Rocco from Nevada, are competing with the Major for the title of world record holder.

The previous tallest dog, George, died at his home in Arizona three years ago. George's height at the withers was 43 inches (109 cm), and his weight was 108 kg.

As you can see, the Major is much higher than the Shetland pony, terrier, cat and mouse.
