How to look like tulo, unique Chinese homes castles

PictolicNationality Hakka who settled in the mountainous Fujian province in China, has created a unique architectural structure, "tulou" that literally meaning earthen structures.

Many centuries ago the people of Hakka migrated to the territory of China, located in Fujian province. Unfriendly locals, bandits, marauders — dangers around was a lot. To protect yourself, the Hakka came up with an unusual houses, which are still surprised contemporaries.

During the internecine wars of the Tang dynasty, the people of Hakka migirov from North to South of China, in the province of Fujian. Local residents were not happy with the aliens, to the same circle and then flashed military clashes, so that the Hakka have to provide permanent protection. For this purpose, they invented the house-fortress where the outside was just a solid wall with narrow loopholes, and accommodations were out of the courtyard-well.

The structures typically had only one entrance and no Windows at ground level. Each floor had different functions: the first was located in a well and livestock, the second food storage, and the third and higher floors living spaces. They were mostly built between the 12th and 20th centuries.

"Tulou" is translated as "land lock", however, their construction is often used brick and stone.

Most of the stone was created the Foundation (it is difficult enemies mine) and build the lower part of the wall to during floods the water has eroded the earthen part of the wall. However, most of the buildings were built from a mixture of clay, sand and lime.

In one tulou can live up to 600 people.

Today, tulou Fujian lost its defensive importance, becoming a unique Chinese architecture monuments.

In 2008, they were listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
