Friendship for years: every five years, these five friends repeat the picture of 1982

Every five years since 1982, five school friends take the same photo in the same place — on Lake Copco in California. 37 years have passed, and the friendship of these guys is still strong. We are waiting for the next photo in 2022, but in the meantime, look at their amazing collection, which kindly evokes thoughts about how fast time flies!

"We weren't going to do it again," Wardlaw said, " But five years later we all got together again to relax, and decided to repeat the picture."

Friends liked this idea, and in 1997 they decided to continue recreating the legendary photo. By 2012, they began to write about them on the Internet.

Friends even signed an agreement to continue the project "Five Year Photo" (Five Year Photo project) after one of them dies. One of the friends, John Dixon, would like his son to take a picture of an empty bench when the last of them is gone.

Says John Wardlaw: "In 1982, we took this strange photo. At that time, we had no idea that we would recreate it every five years. The photo was taken on a camera with a Pentax 35mm wide-angle lens sometime on July 4-July 9. There is a cockroach in the jar, a photo of the actor Robert Young (to keep the cockroach company), and a toffee (for the cockroach)."

"On that day, about June 19, we gathered the same company again at Lake Copco. This time the photo was taken on the Canon AE1 Program. There are a couple of inconsistencies with the original."

"It was cloudy and cool that day, so we were all wearing T-shirts. Approximately on June 14, and again the Canon AE1 Program camera".

"Here we started to move away from the original photo, however, then returned to it again. We also took a photo without T-shirts, but decided that we would not post it. This one was made at the beginning of September on Nikon FM2."

"Here John M. forgot his glasses, and again we are no closer to the original. In addition, they took a large jar. The photo was taken on June 8 on the Canon AE1 Program".

"In this picture, we managed to get the original jar (without the cockroach) and a new hat, which we used in subsequent photos. We were photographed on September 8, for the first time on a digital camera-Nikon D70".

"That year, we took out a photo of Robert Young, which was in the bank in the original photo. The photo was taken on June 26 again on a Nikon D800."

"That day, the three Johns finally bared their torso, as in the original photo. We haven't done this since 1987-we had to go on a diet and get pumped up. We took a picture on June 27 on a Nikon D800."

The next photo is expected in 2022. We hope that many more will be done.
