As the Director of nature conservation British charity organization National Park Rescue Neil McCann and colleagues which has made two flights over the Okavango Delta, in early may, the animal rights activists found 169 dead elephant, and after a month of 187.

Animal rights activists have so far failed to establish the cause of mass death of animals in one place. The government of Botswana, to whom the accident was reported back in may, has put forward the version about the incident.

So the McCann don't exclude that we are talking about a disease that potentially can be transmitted to people — especially if it is able to survive in water.

Anthrax — initially considered the most likely cause was excluded. Infection COVID-19 has been mentioned as a possible reason, but is considered unlikely.
