Then they were part of the competitions of female athletes. Some tournaments also evaluated the beauty of the shoulders, arms and legs.
The participants of such contests hid behind a curtain, exposing only their ankles for evaluation. Often such shows were held by hosiery companies, and their winners received not only free stockings from the sponsors of the event, but also fame and universal love.
