1. Adding oil to the water when cooking pasta.
Some people add oil to the water when they cook pasta. They do this to stop water from boiling or to prevent pasta from sticking together. However, adding oil may not be a good idea if you plan on eating pasta with sauce because the oil will make it harder for the sauce to stick to the pasta.

2. Waiting too long before mixing pasta.
It is important to start stirring the pasta immediately. They are more likely to start sticking together at first due to the release of starch.

3. Do not let the meat thaw.
You should take the meat out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature before you cook it. Otherwise, cold meat will be cooked unevenly: the inside is raw, and the outside is burnt.

4. Don't let the meat rest before cutting it.
When you cook meat, most of the juices are in the center. Therefore, it is better to wait for a little before slicing it so that the juices can soak through all the meat.

5. Stirring rice.
If you're not making risotto, it's best not to stir the rice. Otherwise, it will activate the starch, which will make your rice soft.

6. Raise the lid when cooking rice
If you are cooking rice in a pot, leave the lid on to check if the rice is done. If you do this, the heat will disappear and the top will be undercooked. It will also mess up the water to rice ratio and the rice will be drier.

7. Fry food in olive oil.
Extra virgin olive oil has a low burning point. Therefore, if you cook it at high temperatures, like a steak, it will start to smell bad and release toxic chemicals.

8. Don't make sure the fish is dry.
If the fish is wet on the surface and you start cooking it in a pan, it will steam instead of fried. This means it won't have that golden crust at the end.

9. Add cold butter and cream to the puree.
Adding these ingredients when cold will prevent them from being properly absorbed by the starch in the potato. Therefore, it is better to heat the butter until it melts and the cream until it starts to release steam, and only then should you add it.

10. Adding garlic too soon.
Garlic burns easily, so when frying, it can spoil the taste first. Add it last and you can be sure it won't burn.

11. Do not heat the pan.
You must heat the pan for a few minutes before frying anything in it. Otherwise, the meat or fish you are cooking will not cook properly.
