It seemed that no one would be surprised by photos of food on Instagram, but the account Ugly Produce Is Beautiful ("Ugly products are beautiful") it succeeded. Culinary expert and food stylist from the USA Sarah Phillips praises the "imperfections" of vegetables and fruits and urges people not to throw away "imperfect" products.
Every year, almost one and a half trillion kilograms of food (that is, a third of the world's food) is spoiled or thrown into the trash. In the USA alone, more than a quarter of products go to the trash for aesthetic reasons. Ugly Produce Is Beautiful is trying to change that. Photographer Sarah Phillips encourages people to eat those "ugly" fruits and vegetables that are often thrown away because they are not as beautiful as the rest.
In the Ugly Produce Is Beautiful account, Sarah shows "ugly" products in all their glory: carrots with ugly appendages, pears with a "side", slightly blackened bananas, strangely shaped tomatoes. And Sarah turns these imperfect products into real works of art.
This does not mean that you need to eat spoiled foods. Of course, if the lemon is moldy, it's time for him to retire, but a slightly blackened banana can be eaten.
Sarah is trying to encourage people not to grab only beauties from supermarket shelves, but to pay attention to imperfect products that taste no worse, then the amount of food waste will be reduced. In his Instagram, the photographer shows the "wrong side" of imperfect products: in the context, they do not differ from the beautiful ones, which means that you need to learn not to judge by the cover.
