Its creators, photographer Shannon Kirkman and her husband Philip, launched the project in 2013. Initially, they made a copy as a gift for the family of Philip's brother, who worked as a taxi driver. Having delved into the industry of yellow cars with checkers, the Kirkmans learned that 90% of drivers are immigrants. The couple were eager to support them and change the distorted image of them in American society.

The Kirkman couple, with the help of creativity and humor, were able to draw the attention of society to the difficulties of the life of immigrants in the metropolis. Most taxi drivers have been working hard for decades to feed their families. Behind the smiles and funny poses is the story of a difficult existence in a city that does not like visitors.
