The Olympic drama with a smiling horse and a crying rider has generated a wave of memes

The smiling horse of the German athlete Annika Schleu has become one of the most popular characters of the network in a matter of hours. Memes with a sobbing Annika and a happy face of a horse named Saint Boy are most often dedicated to hopes that have collapsed for reasons beyond the control of a person.

The athlete who defended the honor of Germany in the pentathlon at the Tokyo Olympics was the main contender for the gold medal. Annika Schleu showed excellent results in fencing and swimming, but it was still necessary to master the show jumping (steeplechase) and combined running with shooting.

But at the third stage of the competition, Annika received zero points, moving from first place to thirty-first. Her horse categorically refused to overcome obstacles and did not give in to any persuasions. Shleu was sobbing right in the saddle, and the animal showed completely human emotions on its face – boundless joy, or schadenfreude, if you like.

And this is not all the problems that the Holy Boy brought to the athletes. By his behavior, he exasperated the coach of the German pentathlon team, Kim Reisner, and she hit him with her fist, and then began to demand that Schleu whip him harder. Animal cruelty is strictly prohibited at the Olympics, so Raisner was disqualified until the end of the games.

But even this is not all the tricks of Saint Boy. Before that, the animal refused to take the barrier for another athlete, Russian Gulnaz Gubaidullina. However, the meme did not work out then, since the representative of Russia turned out to be cooler, and the horse did not laugh. It turns out that the score is 3:0, in favor of a cheerful horse.

Many have decided that they will get even with the horse when the Olympics are over, but in Battle they will not have to turn into raw materials for German sausages or juicy shawarma. The fact is that the horses are given to the pentathletes 20 minutes before the performance and they are not the property of the team.
