By Pictolic https://www.pictolic.com/article/gerard-ransinant-the-most-famous-photographer-in-france.htmlGerard Ransinan is one of the most famous French photographers. He was born in 1953 in the small town of Talence in the Bordeaux region. Gerard began studying photography when he was 15 years old, enrolling as an apprentice in the photo lab of one of the Bordeaux daily newspapers. At 18, Ransinan had already landed a job as a photojournalist and was doing stories for several news outlets.
Real fame came to the young photographer at the age of 21, when he worked for the Parisian press agency Sygma. This work required constant travel to hot spots. Ransinan filmed for the agency the Algerian earthquake, the war in Lebanon, the riots in the UK, the Olympic Games, the world championships in football and athletics. At the same time, he began to create his own photographic portraits of show business stars, famous athletes, scientists and statesmen.

1. In 1986, the photographer stops his work at Sygma and creates his own agency, and in 1989 he becomes an independent photographer working in the genres of art and advertising photography.

2. Creating his compositions, the photographer draws inspiration from the famous works of the great painters of the past. It touches on all the burning problems of our time: hunger, wars, the destruction of spirituality, environmental disasters, the violation of basic human rights, the dangers of globalization, the dominance of unhealthy food, and many others.

3. In many of Gerard Ransinan's photographs, "primary sources" are clearly visible - paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio, Delacroix, Bosch and others. Therefore, for connoisseurs of classical painting, the work of the photographer is of particular interest.

4. Famous paintings, easily recognizable for specialists, are mixed with the events of modern liveliness, and as a result, something completely new is born, carrying with it many associations.

5. As a rule, all the characters in Ransinan's photographs are famous people, our contemporaries.

6. The work of the photographer enjoys worldwide recognition. His work is regularly published in such publications as Time, Life Magazine, Sunday Times Magazine, Paris Match and other well-known magazines.

7. Since 1984, Ransinan has been constantly collaborating with the most famous American sports magazine - Sports Illustrated. Four times the artist has won the prestigious World Press Awards.

8. Many of Ransinan's works can be compared with monumental paintings - they are grandiose multi-figured compositions (the number of characters in them can reach up to 40) and are several meters in size. One such piece, a gigantic photograph entitled "The Girls of the Batman Family" (179 x 264 cm), sold at auction for £97,250.
